According to our friend the biologist, it isn't unusual at all for mallards to nest up high in flower boxes and on railings. Even apartments have seen nests. He said not to worry. Once they are ready to leave the nest, mama will simply toss them down. Does this mean that we might have duckling corpses littering our deck caused by the fall? I suppose it is a possibility, but our source tells us not to worry. Of course it is a constant source of sleeplessness on my part. Time will tell.
